A photo essay of Bob Johnson’s work at Ground Zero in the aftermath of 9/11.

Above Left: Commander Roland Kandle, Assistant Connie and Chaplain Ray. Notice the patches on board. These patches represent the many agencies that were represented at the WTC disaster. Above Right: Construction workers at the World Trade Center site removing debris and searching for remains following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Pastor Bob served as a volunteer chaplain for emergency workers at the scene of the disaster.

Above Left: This is location where Captain Karen DeShore of the FDNY was when the first tower collapsed. She ran behind the big column and the other fireman ran through the window in the rear. See the silhouette. Above Right: Nino’s is the restaurant that served as a respite area for all of the WTC workers. I believe this Nino’s is now closed.

Above Left: Christmas Day in the Pit. Firefighters of FDNY and Chaplain Ed (left) and Chaplain Bob (right). This is the day the chaplains met Mayor Giuliani. Above Right: The remains of the World Trade Center Towers elevator system at the landfill.
